Julia Petersen is a cellist, music therapist, and forestry advocate who — inspired by her father's landmark work returning an estimated $28 billion to tribes nationwide — has spent over 30 years channeling her love of nature, music, and people into solutions-driven work, including co-running Evergreen Magazine, the 40-year-old forestry nonprofit she leads with her husband Jim Petersen.



Biography

Julia Petersen’s passion for nature started early, at the knee of her father. - a forester who put his skills to work as a highly respected forestry economist and advocate. He spent his career testifying on behalf of those whose lands were misused. He became well known for his work with and for tribes. It is estimated that through his work over 28 billion dollars were returned to tribes across the United States.

Wes had a song and a story for every situation – work and play. He drew on old songs, historical songs, biblical examples, and he sprinkled in a lot of silly, joyful improvisation.

Julia has spent over 30 years combining her passions for nature, music, and people. The “why of things” is what drives her. Whether it is playing her cello, teaching music, working as a music therapist, or diving into forestry related issues - her focus is solutions and connection.

Julia and her husband - Jim Petersen - run Evergreen Magazine – a forestry nonprofit founded by Jim. 40 years ago. Evergreen was born out of the public’s demand to have a voice in the decisions being made about our public lands - and continues to carry forward this mission.
