Who We Are

Protecting communities and forests.

We are here because communities deserve the FACTS about wildfire.

National Wildfire Alliance (NWA) is a 501 c(3) grassroots organization of professional and academic experts concerned with the mismanagement of our Nation's forests and wildfires with proven solutions for addressing these problems.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:

Empower people. Protect forests. Restore trust.

What Makes NWA Different?

Most wildfire conversations focus on fuel and climate — important, but incomplete.
NWA looks at the whole system, including:

  • How funding shapes fire response,

  • How policy delays worsen outcomes,

  • How communities are left without adequate prevention tools,

  • And how many questions about wildfire management go unanswered.

We bring the parts together so the public can see the full picture — and take informed action.

Our Story

NWA was founded by people who have witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by catastrophic wildfires — and the frustration that comes when communities are left with few answers and even fewer resources.

Over the years, we saw a pattern emerge:

  • fires intentionally expanded and growing larger

  • communities caught unprepared and unprotected

  • destructive decisions and no accountability

  • funding systems benefiting from disaster rather than prevention

  • out-of-control wildfire industrial complex

At the same time, local knowledge, cultural burning practices, and community solutions were pushed aside.

NWA is changing that.

We bring truth to the surface, advance real solutions, and work with regional residents, Tribes, scientists, and leaders who believe our forests and communities deserve better. Return to active forest and land management practices that reduce fuels loads, protect communities, and prevent catastrophic wildfires.
